About the Job

Part time - Permanent: 18.5 hours per week
Interview date: 11 June 2025
The University Library, within Library, Learning and Student Services (LLSS) is seeking to appoint an Information Assistant working as part of the Digitisation and Inter-library loan team. You will contribute to the acquisition and delivery of print and digital resources and be responsible to the Collections & Licensing Specialist. The position involves liaising with other organisations to acquire content on loan or in digital format, and digitising articles and chapters in line with Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) legal requirements. You will be expected to maintain accurate records relating to loans and digitisation in our library management system, reading list system and some external systems for reporting purposes.
The postholder will be expected to work across all teams within the library, including Reading Lists and Accessible formats and will have some involvement in checking accessibility and compliance with standards.
We want you to be able to carry out your work in a way that best supports UON and our students, but also you as an individual. We understand this may vary between different areas of the university as well as from one person to another. With Smarter Working you can work with increased flexibility, if you would like to, which can facilitate greater freedom and autonomy. This post is a based at the University’s Waterside Campus. Working on site is required according to business and student needs, but there is scope for some remote working. For this post we have a mixed approach of on-site and at home working that recognises the nature of inter-library loans and digitisation e.g. receiving and returning physical books, scanning chapters, which requires colleagues to be on site at regular times to deliver the service. Therefore, we cannot specify a certain number of remote days per week as we aim to have one person from the team on-site every day and work flexibly around this.
We are an accredited Living Wage Foundation Employer and currently pay the real living wage, which is currently £24,309 per annum, pro rata. In recognition of this, the starting salary for this post has been increased to pay this higher amount which currently supersedes the actual Grade 4 starting salary before living wage.
About you
You will be organised, self-motivated and able to work unsupervised. You will also be a team player with a flexible, positive approach and excellent communication skills. The post requires you to have high levels of accuracy and attention to detail and to be able to adapt to occasional changes in technology and workflow.
You will be educated to GCSE level, or higher, and will be a confident user of IT and internet-based applications. You will also have an interest in digital delivery and library and information processes and systems.

Essential:
- 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, or NVQ Level 2, or equivalent qualification or relevant experience
