We are seeking an IT Security Analyst to join the Cyber Security team at the University of Northampton.
You will help protect the University's information and systems from unauthorised access, disruption, or destruction through the operation of security solutions and the application of robust security controls.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and manage security monitoring solutions, including SIEM and endpoint detection and response (EDR) platforms.
  • Investigate and respond to security alerts and incidents across network, infrastructure, and applications.
  • Support vulnerability management activities, including network scanning, reporting, and coordination of remedial actions.
  • Advise on security controls for IT projects, reviewing solution designs and suppliers.
  • Assist with conducting security risk assessments and audits based on best practice frameworks.
  • Develop and maintain incident response playbooks and contribute to cyber incident response activities.
  • Form part of the Cyber Incident Response Team (CIRT), assisting with triage, investigations, and post-incident reviews.
  • Support cloud security operations and assist in developing technical security procedures.
  • Perform proactive threat detection activities through threat hunting exercises.

About You

You will have excellent technical experience in Cyber Security operations, incident response, and vulnerability management, with a proactive approach to managing threats and reducing risk.

  • Demonstrable experience in a similar position
  • Relevant experience in a similar position within IT / Information Security, including demonstrable experience of SIEM solutions, web security, email security and EDR solutions
  • High level of understanding in the approach threat actors take to attack a network; phishing, port scanning, web application attacks, DDoS, lateral movement
  • Demonstrable experience in conducting cyber security investigations into network, infrastructure, and applications
  • Experience of cyber security across the Systems Development Lifecycle (from technical design, implementation and management of core security platforms)
  • Experience of being an IT Security representative on projects, reviewing designs, performing threat modelling, supplier reviews and providing recommendations
  • Experience of identifying and classifying cyber threats and vulnerabilities and formulating a risk-based approach to IT Security
  • Experience or knowledge of vulnerability scanning and penetration testing
  • Good understanding of the 6 phases of Incident Response and practical experience responding to cyber security incidents using playbooks
  • Knowledge or experience of cloud security practices (desirable)
  • Experience with Crowdstrike (desirable)

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Hold a relevant professional level cyber security qualification or Bachelors/Advanced Degree or equivalent experience

Desirable:

  • ISO27001 certification or equivalent experience
