In this post, you’ll be the central point of coordination for issuing, tracking, and managing permits for contractors and internal teams working at the University of Northampton. You’ll ensure all works are properly authorised, risk-assessed, and compliant with health and safety regulations. You will be assessing permits for a range of works from electrical maintenance, mechanical, to high risk activities such as hot works. Your diligence will help keep our university safe, efficient, and operational. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Processing and issuing permits to work in accordance with university procedures
  • Maintaining accurate records and logs of all active permits
  • Liaising with contractors, project managers, and safety officers
  • Monitoring compliance and escalating issues when necessary
  • Monitoring contractors on site through visual audits
  • Completing the site induction for contractors who attend site

About you 

The successful candidate will have; 

  • Demonstrable experience of administering Permit to Work systems either manually or digitally
  • Experience of managing a range of contractors, both contractually and on site
  • Knowledge of CAFM systems
  • Experience of working in a multi-site environment
  • The ability to work with minimal supervision and on own initiative
  • Integrity and professionalism, demonstrating a commitment to ethical standards, confidentiality, and the University’s values of inclusivity, trust, sustainability and aspiration

Qualifications 

Essential;

  • IOSH Managing Safely qualification or equivalent

Desirable;

  • L8 Management qualification
  • Electrical/Mechanical qualification to a minimum NVQ Level 3/time served equivalent
