About the post:
Our Security and Community Safety team provides 24/7 support to students and staff throughout the year. Our officers are highly visible, friendly, and proactive, ensuring a safe campus environment.

  • Work 12-hour shifts on a 4 days on / 4 days off rota
  • Mix of day and night shifts
  • Training provided
  • Primarily based at the new Waterside campus, but working across all other sites

Whilst fulfilling the usual remit of a Security and Community Safety Officer, the post at the University has a focus on the student experience and support.  Being front-line, good customer service is key to helping the different areas when on site. This can include, site access, evidence retrieval, working closely with the residential life team to ensure safety across the varied areas.

Working with the University Police Team (UPT), you will be given the opportunity to gain and enhance skills to be able to achieve a high standard of community safety, whilst building your training portfolio through scenario exercises such as water rescue, fire investigations and first aid response.

We are an accredited Living Wage Foundation Employer and currently pay the real living wage, which is currently £27,594 per annum (for 42 hours per week). In recognition of this, the starting salary for this post has been increased to pay this higher amount which currently supersedes the actual first spinal point of Grade 4 salary before living wage.

About you

Working in the higher education sector, we are looking for the applicant to have excellent customer service and communications skills, along with a good, flexible, and positive approach to a situation.

Security experience would be an advantage and Security Industry Authority (SIA) training to Door supervisor is essential for this post.  SIA Close Circuit Television (CCTV) standards training will be available to the right candidate.

We are looking for someone keen to learn new areas and help build upon our reputation of security and community safety, helping to lead the way to a safer tomorrow.

A full driving license is essential for this post.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • SIA Door Supervisor license 
  • SIA CCTV Operative license (or to be obtained during probation period)
  • First Aid at Work Certificate (or to be obtained during probation period)
