About the Job

Fixed term for 12 months

Interview date: 29 July 2024

We are seeking an inspirational scientist to support teaching, learning and research activity in nutrition and physiology related specialisms within established degree programmes in the Life Sciences area. The successful candidate will join our Life Sciences team, which has an excellent reputation for student-focused teaching and high-quality research.

The successful candidate will strengthen our existing team’s teaching and research expertise and will be responsible for teaching and leading modules on our BSc programmes. Applicants for this post will be expected to make a positive contribution to the student experience across our Bioscience, Health Science and Sport Science degrees.

You will also be expected to contribute to the research and scholarly output of the subject area and work with other researchers within the Faculty and wider University. Research and scholarship are supported through our research centres, mentor scheme and 25 days’ leave for scholarly activity.

We want you to be able to carry out your work in a way that best supports UON and our students, but also you as an individual. We understand this may vary between different areas of the university as well as from one person to another.  With Smarter Working you can work with increased flexibility, if you would like to, which can facilitate greater freedom and autonomy.

About you

You will have a background in integrative physiology and nutrition applied to topics such as human metabolism, performance, health and disease. An interest in the application of physiological and metabolic processes to specific populations to support and promote a healthy lifestyle and prevent disease, alongside an ability to teach across the wider subject area will be considered an advantage.

You will have experience of teaching and the use of digital technologies and can take an active role in developing new teaching resources and delivering engaging learning experiences. The successful candidate will be ICT literate and have experience in leading or mentoring colleagues or students. Previous experience of teaching, module leadership is desirable. A track record of effective partnership working to develop scholarship and employability opportunities would be advantageous.

You will be an enthusiastic and proactive team member who is highly disciplined, organised, supportive and able to work collegiately within a team. You will need to work closely with other academics, local partner organisations and public health groups, so will need to have excellent communication skills.

The ability to produce research publications, successful grant applications and/or generate income would be welcomed.

The University’s £330 million Waterside Campus is based in Northampton town. Therefore, you will benefit from purpose-built teaching and research facilities, a supportive team, and well-established and sustainable links with our regional partners.

About Us

Come to the University of Northampton and you will see that we do things a bit differently.

We are one of the youngest universities in the UK but we are already leading the way in adding value to society, which we call social impact. We have won multiple awards for our work in this area, among others, but what matters the most to us is ensuring that our students and graduates have the opportunity to make their mark on the world too. That’s why we were the first university in the UK to be named as a Changemaker Campus in 2012.

We want to break the mould of what Higher Education can be. This has led us to build a whole new University from the ground up that is designed to reflect the way that students actually learn rather than the way they are expected to learn. Waterside Campus opened in September 2018.

Our commitment to transforming lives and inspiring change is at the heart of all that we do.

Right to Work

All candidates will be asked to provide proof of eligibility to work in the UK at interview.

Equality

We welcome applications from underrepresented groups.
